LATEST UPDATES: Anambra Election and The Controversies

undefined
As reported on Saturday, INEC rescheduled Anambra guber election in 65 polling units for Sunday. But some parties, including the APC, demanded elections in 4LGAs – Idemili North, Idemili South, Awka South and Ihiala, where majority of voters were denied the opportunity to vote on Saturday.

At 11:00am, Chris Ngige addressed a press conference at Old English Hotel Awka. He says the APC will not participate in the ongoing rescheduled election in Idemili north, unless INEC do the right thing. INEC say the election must take place in only 65 polling units and went ahead to start the process.

Unfortunately, about 20 INEC men going to conduct the fresh election in parts of Anambra were attacked in the early hours of Sunday by heavily armed men along the Onitsha-Owerri Expressway.

APC candidate’s Campaign Director, George Moghalu berates INEC for organising elections on Sunday. On his part, Ngige said "I weep for Nigeria", adding that INEC has taken 3 steps backwards.

PDP candidate Tony Nwoye says Jega is worse than Iwu, adding that INEC scientifically rigged the election.

Meanwhile, INEC chairman, Prof Jega was on AIT and here are excerpts of his interview:
"The Electoral Officer in charge of Idemili North…messed up distribution of electoral materials. We believe strongly that there was connivance between the EO and unknown agents to subvert the electoral process and the Electoral Officer & LGA Supervisor in charge of Idemili North have been handed over to the police."
PDP candidate Tony Nwoye blasts Anambra Resident Electoral Commissioner, alleging that he compromised, just as he calls for the cancellation of election results.

Apathy mars Sunday’s rescheduled election in Idemili north LGA; a polling unit with 1000 registered voters, for example, recorded 100 accredited voters.

The All Progressives Congress (APC) on Sunday demanded a total cancellation of the Saturday governorship election in Anambra State based on the massive disenfranchisement of people across the state, caused by the blatant incompetent of INEC.
